Al-Araji and UNDP Highlight Crucial Preventive Measures Against Extremist Ideology


Anbar: National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji and the UNDP Resident Representative in Iraq, Titon Mitra, emphasized the importance of preventive measures to counter extremist ideology and preserve peaceful coexistence.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the National Security Advisory Office detailed that Al-Araji met with Mitra during the 15th coordination meeting of the heads of the provincial subcommittees of the National Committee for Countering Violent Extremism, held in Anbar Governorate.



The statement revealed that a detailed review was conducted of the National Committee’s work and its role in preparing community integration programs. The meeting also highlighted the committee’s efforts in forming the League of Tribal Sheikhs, the League of Religious Figures, and the Iraqi Youth Volunteer Group Against Extremism. Additionally, the meeting emphasized the role of women, the coordination team for returnees from the Al-Amal camp, and the research and studies cell.



Both parties affirmed that the primary objective is preventative work to counter extremist ideology, preserve peaceful coexistence, and consolidate social harmony. They highlighted that such efforts are crucial for establishing political stability that positively impacts the economic activity of individuals and society.



The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme praised the role played by the National Security Advisory Office through the National Committee for Countering Violent Extremism. Particular commendation was given to their community reintegration programs and the activation of laws to hold those accountable who promote extremist rhetoric and limit its spread.
