Al-Araji and US Counterterrorism Director Discuss Security Cooperation and Prisoner Transfer


Baghdad: National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji engaged in discussions with Joseph Kent, the Director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, at his office today. The meeting focused on enhancing joint security cooperation and the transfer of prisoners from northeast Syria to Iraq.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the National Security Advisory released a statement highlighting the discussions on developing cooperation and joint coordination in counterterrorism efforts. The importance of a united international community in confronting terrorist organizations was underscored during the meeting.



The dialogue also covered the transfer of prisoners from northeastern Syria to Iraq, emphasizing the international community’s responsibility to repatriate its citizens from these prisons. This is seen as a shared responsibility to tackle the threat of terrorism effectively.



Al-Araji emphasized Iraq’s balanced relations with the United States and the international community, highlighting the significance of leveraging these relations to reduce regional tensions and restore stability. He stressed that security is indivisible and that international community cohesion is critical to eliminating terrorist groups.



Joseph Kent acknowledged Iraq’s pivotal role in the region and its significant contributions to combating terrorist organizations, commending Iraq’s extensive experience and established expertise in this area.
