Al-Araji Calls for Strengthened Ties with European Union Countries


Baghdad: National Security Adviser Qasim Al-Araji stressed the need to strengthen relations with European Union countries. Al-Araji emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties during a meeting with Arosa Maria Gili, Deputy Director-General of the European External Action Service for the Middle East and North Africa, and her delegation. The meeting, held in Al-Araji’s office, was also attended by the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Thomas Sailer.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, discussions during the meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, particularly concerning the regional situation with an emphasis on the Syrian arena. The conversations highlighted the ongoing changes in the region and the joint efforts by the Iraqi government and the European Union to bolster regional stability. The discussions also touched on increasing humanitarian efforts to support Iraq and international organizations in closing the Syrian Al-Hol camp, following the repatriation of foreign citizens.



Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to a shared strategic vision aimed at mitigating threats and overcoming challenges. Al-Araji underlined the necessity of reinforcing relationships with European Union countries, describing them as crucial partners. He noted that there are numerous shared interests and visions that align between the two entities.
