Baghdad: National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Germany, and ways to strengthen them in a phone call with German Deputy Foreign Minister G©za Andreas von Geyr on Thursday.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the National Security Advisory stated that al-Araji reviewed the regional developments, including tensions and military escalation, during the call with the German Deputy Foreign Minister. He emphasized the need for concerted efforts by friendly and brotherly nations to halt the war and return to the negotiating table, based on respect for international law and the strengthening of the diplomatic track.
Al-Araji affirmed that the Iraqi government has taken practical steps to provide the necessary protection for foreign missions and diplomatic bodies within Iraq. He noted that the Iraqi government has conducted numerous contacts with friendly and brotherly countries to promote de-escalation and a return to the diplomatic path. He stressed the importance of the role of Germany and the European Union in supporting diplomatic efforts and working to end the war.
For his part, the German Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Iraq, praising Iraq’s pivotal role in supporting the diplomatic process and promoting dialogue and understanding. He noted that the German government, in coordination with friendly countries, is making efforts to stop the war and return to the negotiating table.
