Baghdad: Head of the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee for the Sadiqoun bloc, Zahra Al-Bajari, expressed her strong rejection on Tuesday of the decision to appoint a special envoy for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Iraq, considering it a “blatant interference in national sovereignty” and a “flagrant violation of international law.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Bajari affirmed in a statement that “this unacceptable decision represents a continuation of Turkish expansionist policies targeting Iraq’s unity and security,” stressing the need for the Iraqi government to “cancel all humiliating agreements” concluded under various pretexts.

Al-Bajari called for “urgent measures to expel what she described as the ‘Turkish occupation’ of Iraqi territory,” noting that “no foreign presence on our lands under any pretext is acceptable, whether through Turkish forces or any other alleged security reasons.”

Al-Bajari also stressed the need to end all pretexts used to advance foreign agendas at the expense of the Iraqi people and national unity, calling on the Prime Minister and Parliament to take a “clear and firm” stance regarding “repeated Turkish violations,” noting that “the government’s silence encourages further violations.”

Al-Bajari concluded her statement by affirming that the Sadiqoun bloc had given her full support, expressing its readiness to “follow up on the issue through all constitutional and legal means” to ensure “the protection of Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
