Baghdad: The head of the National State Forces Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim, has called for the development of a comprehensive international strategy to tackle the increasing challenges posed by global warming. This appeal was made in alignment with World Environment Day, emphasizing the urgent need for unified efforts to address environmental crises.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim highlighted the critical issues of industrial pollution, excessive destruction of green spaces and forests, spread of desertification, and dust storms. He urged for a concerted global strategy that involves relevant organizations and institutions working together to support United Nations environmental programs. Al-Hakim also proposed a significant awareness campaign to educate the public about the dangers of pollution on sustainable development and the protection of ecosystems.

Al-Hakim further emphasized the importance of accelerating green belt projects in Baghdad and other governorates, alongside expanding afforestation and green space initiatives. These efforts, he stated, are essential to restoring the vibrancy and ecological health of Iraq’s landscape.
