Baghdad: Ammar al-Hakim, head of the National State Forces Alliance, met with the Turkish Ambassador to Iraq, Anil Bora Inan, to discuss the latest developments in the region and the role of regional states in de-escalating tensions and restoring stability. The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them by capitalizing on shared interests and promising opportunities between the two countries.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim reiterated his call for an end to the ongoing conflict in the region and the restoration of stability, emphasizing that “dialogue is the best way to achieve this.”

He explained that “Iraq is among the countries most affected by this crisis, due to the decline in its oil production and exports, which constitute the largest part of its budget.” He expressed his hope for a swift end to this crisis, which is impacting the global economy, and that regional countries will play a greater role in achieving de-escalation and restoring stability.

Al-Hakim emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the promising opportunities between Baghdad and Ankara, considering the development corridor one of the most significant of these opportunities, given its potential to transform Iraq into a hub connecting East and West. He also stressed the importance of granting Iraq a fair share of water resources.

Furthermore, Al-Hakim affirmed Iraq’s commitment to the project of consolidating weapons under state control through dialogue and understanding, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the constitution, which stipulates that Iraq will not be a corridor, base, or launching pad for threatening neighboring countries. He also stressed the necessity of respecting Iraq’s sovereignty and its pursuit of openness to all.
