Al-Hakim Highlights Iraq’s Efforts to Foster Strong Relations with Neighbors

Baghdad: The head of the State Forces Alliance, Ammar al-Hakim, emphasized Iraq’s intentions to cultivate strong relationships with neighboring countries during a meeting with Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin and his delegation. The discussions focused on regional developments and bilateral relations between Iraq and Turkey, aiming to enhance areas of mutual interest and reinforce ties between the two nations.

According to Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim underscored Iraq’s constitutional commitment to peaceful coexistence, stating that the country must not serve as a transit route or base for threats against neighboring nations. He highlighted the necessity of maintaining Iraq’s sovereignty and preventing foreign interference. Al-Hakim also emphasized the significance of expanding economic cooperation, particularly through the Development Road project, which he described as a strategic opportunity to connect Iraq and Turkey with the East and West.

Al-Hakim pointed out Iraq’s achievements in defeating terrorism and liberating its territory, suggesting that Iraq’s counter-terrorism experiences could be beneficial. He advocated for continued collaboration between Iraq and Turkey to combat terrorism, disrupt its financial sources, and counteract its ideological networks.

On broader regional issues, al-Hakim expressed hope that the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States would culminate in a comprehensive agreement, enhancing regional security and stability. He urged influential regional countries to support de-escalation efforts and contribute to restoring stability.

Domestically, al-Hakim remarked on Iraq’s progress in overcoming political deadlock, successfully electing leadership, and forming a government. He identified the economic sector as the current challenge, stressing the importance of diversifying income sources and export outlets for crude oil to bolster Iraq’s revenue and explore new market opportunities.
