Al-Hakim Reaffirms Timely Elections as a Crucial Turning Point

Baghdad: The head of the National Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, confirmed on Saturday that the elections will be held on schedule, while noting that the upcoming elections will be a watershed between periods of stability and instability. Hakim’s media office said in a statement: “al-Hakim met with sheikhs and dignitaries of Iraqi tribes at his Baghdad office.”

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim added: “The upcoming elections will be held on schedule, and any talk to the contrary is deviant from the reality.” He explained that “Iraq has gone through difficult circumstances in the past, but they did not prevent the holding of elections.”

He expressed his conviction that it is difficult to amend the electoral law, which has proven its effectiveness in the provincial council elections and the Kurdistan Region, making it an acceptable and fair law.

He emphasized that “the upcoming elections will be a watershed between periods of stability and instability,” stressing “the need to keep electoral competition within its acceptable framework,” calling for “the election of the most competent, worthy, and trustworthy candidate for the political process and the political system.”
