Baghdad: The head of the National State Forces Alliance, Sayyed Ammar Al-Hakim, asserted on Monday that the control of weapons in Iraq is a matter that should be decided domestically, regarding both its timing and mechanism.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hakim’s office released a statement detailing a meeting with a delegation from the political and executive offices of Al-Nujaba Movement. During this meeting, participants exchanged greetings on the occasion of the Prophet’s birthday while discussing recent political developments in Iraq and the broader region. They also examined the ongoing war’s impact on Iraq’s economy.

Al-Hakim highlighted the economic challenges Iraq faces, particularly due to a decline in oil exports and revenue. He urged the need to take advantage of the current situation by diversifying the economy, attracting investments, and expanding export channels. Regarding the control of weapons, Al-Hakim reiterated that it is an internal issue, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue and understanding in addressing it. He also acknowledged the significant role played by factional weapons in fighting terrorism and the sacrifices made to restore state sovereignty.
