Baghdad: The head of the National Wisdom Movement, Sayyed Ammar al-Hakim, met with the Charg© d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Ambassador Steven Fagin, to discuss recent political developments on both local and regional levels, as well as bilateral relations between Baghdad and Washington.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Hakim stated that the meeting addressed the evolving political landscape in Iraq and the broader region, in addition to areas of cooperation between the two countries. He highlighted that Iraq has made significant gains that strengthen its political system, emphasizing the importance of supporting the country’s democratic path.

Al-Hakim called for broad, effective, and informed participation in the upcoming elections, describing them as crucial for consolidating stability and moving toward a phase of sustainable peace. He stressed the need to adopt dialogue as a means of resolving internal disputes and affirmed that the constitution provides a solid foundation for such efforts. He urged the application of the constitution with a spirit of compromise and prioritization of national interests, as well as a commitment to the principles of rights and responsibilities.

He also emphasized the importance of a unified political discourse and the necessity to avoid sectarian, racist, or inflammatory rhetoric. Al-Hakim pointed out that regional stability reflects positively on Iraq, just as Iraq’s stability contributes to the broader regional calm. He expressed hope for a general atmosphere of tranquility across the region, which ensures the interests of its peoples and enables them to benefit from their resources.
