Baghdad: The Head of the Hikma Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, has made an urgent appeal to the international community, urging them to exert pressure to halt ongoing conflicts, provide necessary relief to displaced populations, and focus on the reconstruction of affected cities.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hakim’s call to action was emphasized during his meeting with the Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, Futoshi Matsumoto, as the latter prepares to conclude his tenure in Iraq. During this meeting, Al-Hakim extended his best wishes for Ambassador Matsumoto’s future endeavors and expressed hopes for the continued strengthening of diplomatic ties between Baghdad and Tokyo under his successor.

Al-Hakim highlighted the robust relationship between Iraq and Japan and advocated for an increased presence of Japanese businesses in Iraq. He pointed to the abundant opportunities in Iraq for reconstruction, development, and digital transformation, inviting Japanese investment in these sectors. Furthermore, Al-Hak
im emphasized his support for the Iraqi government’s efforts to automate various government sectors through modern technology, underscoring the necessity of diversifying Iraq’s economy. He urged a move away from the rentier state model by invigorating the industrial, agricultural, tourism, investment, and technology sectors.

In his address, Al-Hakim condemned the ongoing conflicts affecting the Palestinian and Lebanese people, reiterating his call for international intervention to cease hostilities, assist displaced individuals, and rebuild devastated cities.
