Baghdad: Speaker of Parliament Haibat al-Halbousi affirmed on Wednesday Iraq’s commitment to strengthening its relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states. The announcement came during a meeting that al-Halbousi held with the Secretary-General of the GCC, Jassem Mohammed al-Badawi, and his accompanying delegation.

According to Iraqi News Agency, al-Halbousi’s media office released a statement detailing the discussions that took place during the meeting. The focus was on the relationship between Iraq and the GCC member states, with both parties exploring ways to consolidate mutual cooperation in various fields, including security, to enhance common interests.

The statement further highlighted that al-Halbousi emphasized Iraq’s dedication to cooperating with the GCC states across all sectors and coordinating on issues of mutual concern. The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening ties to bolster regional stability and economic collaboration.

In response, GCC Secretary-General Jassem Mohammed al-Badawi expressed his support for Iraq and affirmed the commitment to strengthening the partnership across all sectors and at all levels.
