Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Heibat Al-Halbousi affirmed that the religious and societal diversity characterizing Iraq represents a fundamental pillar of its national identity and a source of strength for its unity and cohesion. A statement by his office noted that Al-Halbousi received Sheikh Sattar Jabbar Al-Helou, the head of the Sabean-Mandaean community in Iraq and the world, on Thursday. During the meeting, the two sides discussed a range of issues concerning the situation of the Sabean-Mandaean community and their primary needs.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Parliament Speaker pointed out that “the religious and societal diversity characterizing Iraq represents a fundamental pillar of its national identity and a source of strength for its unity and cohesion,” affirming his support for their rights as an integral part of Iraqi society. The Parliament Speaker directed that the community’s needs be followed up with the relevant authorities and that efforts be made to overcome the obstacles they face.
