Al-Hassan Highlights Iraq’s Triumph Over Terrorism and Future Cooperation

Al-hassan: Iraq has triumphed over terrorism thanks to its people and international support: The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, affirmed: "Iraq has triumphed over terrorism thanks to its people and international support."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Hassan stated during a briefing at the UN Security Council session on Iraq: "The road to peace and stability in Iraq has been long and arduous." The Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) added: "This briefing comes just before the end of UNAMI's mission, and it is the last one." He noted that "the end of the UN mission's mandate in Iraq does not mean the end of cooperation with Iraq, but rather the beginning of a new chapter."

He continued: "Iraq has overcome difficult circumstances on its path to stability and has succeeded in holding transparent elections with a high voter turnout. I expect that the formation of the new Iraqi government will not be delayed."

Al-Hassan explained: "Iraq has demonstrated its commitment to repatriating its citizens from Al-Hol camp, and has succeeded in returning more than 20,000 displaced persons from the camp."

He expressed his concern about attacks on vital facilities and installations, including the recent attack on the gas field in the Kurdistan Region, calling for those responsible to be pursued and brought to justice. He also expressed his hope for resolving the outstanding issues between the central and regional governments.
