Baghdad: The Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and president of the Federation of Arab Journalists, Moayad al-Lami, announced the imminent construction of the Iraqi Press Tower in a prime Baghdad area.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Lami made this announcement during the opening of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate’s general election conference. He expressed his gratitude to the guests and foreign and Arab delegations attending the conference, noting that it takes place at a time when regions surrounding Iraq face challenges, while Iraq itself enjoys security and peace.
Al-Lami highlighted the efforts made to elevate the status of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate. He revealed that 20,000 residential plots have been distributed in Baghdad and other governorates, with promises from local governors to distribute the remaining plots to journalists in the coming months.
He further explained that the union’s branches now have headquarters in all governorates, a milestone achievement for the union. He also mentioned plans to increase and expand the incentive grant for journalists as a token of appreciation for their sacrifices.
Al-Lami shared that the syndicate has facilitated the medical treatment of numerous journalists and is working on a residential complex for journalists in the Zanbaraniyah area, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Construction.
He assured that families of martyred journalists receive monthly stipends of 1,200,000 Iraqi dinars, alongside support for wounded journalists. Al-Lami also emphasized that no journalist affiliated with the syndicate is imprisoned for their work, thanks to cooperation with the independent Iraqi judiciary.
