Baghdad: At a dialogue seminar organized by the Integrity Commission and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, key figures emphasized the crucial role of the media in supporting anti-corruption efforts in Iraq. The seminar, titled “The Role of the Media in Combating Corruption and Promoting Integrity Values in Community Awareness,” brought together officials from government media and communications offices, media and press representatives, and academic figures.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the President of the Arab Journalists Federation and Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Mu’ayyad al-Lami, opened the seminar by stressing that Iraqis are keenly observing how the media can collaborate with the Federal Integrity Commission to combat the longstanding issue of corruption. Al-Lami praised the efforts of the Integrity Commission’s employees and acknowledged the significant contributions of the Iraqi journalistic community in working with oversight bodies and committees across various government institutions to expose corrupt practices.

Nazir Al-Shouk, representing the Federal Integrity Commission, reiterated the media’s pivotal role in shaping and raising societal awareness. He highlighted that the symposium forms part of a cooperation agreement between the Commission and the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, aimed at fostering a culture that rejects corruption and supports integrity and transparency. Al-Shouk expressed the Commission’s aspiration to communicate its anti-corruption message effectively through its collaboration with the media.
