Al-Maliki Urges Positive Competition and Integrity in Upcoming Elections


Baghdad: The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, has called on electoral lists and candidates to engage in positive competition and to steer clear of defamation and damaging election campaigns.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Maliki made a statement emphasizing the significance of the commencement of the election campaign, describing it as a pivotal moment in the effort to present the most qualified candidates. He highlighted the importance of honoring those who sacrificed their lives for Iraq’s political and democratic journey, which aims to establish a robust nation and ensure prosperity for its people in a secure environment where all citizens coexist and compete with integrity.

Al-Maliki urged all electoral participants to maintain a positive spirit in the competition, free from discrediting opponents or sabotaging electoral campaigns. He stressed the importance of adhering to the principles of national brotherhood and following the guidelines set by the Independent High E
lectoral Commission. Moreover, he underscored the necessity of preserving the election’s integrity by avoiding the misuse of public funds and state resources.

He also addressed the citizens, emphasizing their duty to participate in the elections and warning against selling their votes or electoral cards. Al-Maliki called for a collective firm stance against any form of transgression or bribery that might compromise citizens’ integrity.

In his concluding remarks, Maliki expressed a desire for the elections to be fair and transparent, reflecting the pride of the nation. He encouraged the people to approach this “sacred duty” with awareness, determination, and accountability, drawing inspiration from the democratic process.
