Baghdad: Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, has declared that any party proven to be involved in the recent attack on Saudi Arabia will face legal repercussions. This commitment was expressed following a meeting with the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Iraq, Irfan Siddiq, at al-Maliki’s office, where they discussed political and security developments in Iraq and the region, alongside enhancing bilateral relations between Iraq and the UK.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Maliki emphasized Iraq’s dedication to fostering good and balanced relations with all nations, respecting sovereignty and security, and opposing actions that could jeopardize the security of neighboring countries or Iraq’s regional and international relations. He highlighted that an investigative committee, established by Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, is actively working on the case concerning the attack on Saudi Arabia, with findings eagerly awaited.

Al-Maliki also noted that the government has initiated accountability measures against negligent leaders and security officials, asserting that any party found involved in the attacks will face legal action, irrespective of their identity. He underlined the importance of addressing security matters within the confines of the law to uphold the state’s dignity and avert internal conflicts, stressing that maintaining internal stability is a non-negotiable national priority.

He reiterated the collective determination to resolve these issues, ensuring that only the state holds arms, which necessitates dialogue, understandings, and assurances for Iraq’s security and stability. Al-Maliki acknowledged the positive response from faction leaders to the committee formed by the Coordination Framework and stressed the urgency of achieving a comprehensive and balanced resolution to these challenges.

Moreover, al-Maliki pointed out that effectively addressing these matters would facilitate ongoing communication and dialogue with various stakeholders, including friendly nations, to foster understandings that safeguard Iraq’s sovereignty and national interests while reinforcing its security and stability.

The British Ambassador, Irfan Siddiq, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening relations with Iraq and supporting its security and stability. Both parties agreed on the critical importance of sustained dialogue and coordination on shared concerns.
