Baghdad: First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, emphasized the importance of enhancing political stability and activating government performance to meet the aspirations of citizens during a meeting with former Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Al-Mandalawi’s office said the two officials met on Saturday to review the latest political and economic developments in Iraq in light of current challenges and to explore ways to support the democratic process.

Both sides underscored the need to support the state’s constitutional, legislative, and executive institutions to ensure the delivery of tangible services to citizens and the achievement of social justice. They also highlighted the crucial role of national leadership in preserving unity and safeguarding the country from divisions and conflicts that threaten the democratic path.

The discussions also addressed the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, which continues to suffer under a severe blockade and the deliberate prevention of humanitarian, medical, and food aid in violations of international law and humanitarian norms.

Al-Mandalawi called on the international community to assume its moral and historical responsibilities and to take urgent and effective action to lift the unjust siege and stop the killing and starvation. He reaffirmed Iraq’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
