Baghdad: First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, confirmed that the draft law for the Popular Mobilization Commission serves as a replacement for the current law enacted in 2016. The new legislation aims to restructure the organization, define its authorities and duties, and outline the responsibilities of affiliated bodies.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a press statement issued on Wednesday, Al-Mandalawi said that the Parliament completed the second reading of the draft law during today’s session. He directed the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee to consider the observations and opinions of lawmakers in order to finalize the necessary amendments. The revised version will then be submitted to the Presidency of the Council to be included in the agenda of upcoming sessions for a vote.

He further explained that the law will contribute to strengthening the combat capabilities of the fighters and will allow for the creation of new formations focused on developing this security institution. The legislation also grants the head of the Authority the necessary powers to implement the objectives envisioned by this vital law.
