Baghdad: The First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, has reached an agreement with the Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan, to collaborate on proposed legislation concerning human rights.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the media office of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament announced that Al-Mandalawi met with Al-Hassan and a high-level UN delegation, accompanied by MPs Salah Zini and Dawood Al-Eidani. The discussions centered on local political developments and the broader regional and global context.

During the meeting, the critical role of the legislative authority in supporting public freedoms, family preservation, enhancing security and stability was highlighted. They also discussed its oversight role in combating corruption and safeguarding national resources. An agreement was reached on bilateral cooperation between the Iraqi Parliament and the United Nations, specifically focusing on proposals and draft laws related to human rights.

Al-Mandalawi emphasized Iraq’s position as a central player in achieving regional stability and balance. He urged the international community to engage with Iraq’s internal affairs constructively to enhance its security and stability, given the complex and pivotal developments in the region.

He also called for sustained pressure on the Zionist entity, urging it to honor its commitments to cease hostilities in Lebanon and Gaza. Furthermore, he advocated for continued humanitarian efforts to support affected populations and ongoing peace initiatives in the Middle East.
