Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and British Ambassador Irfan Siddiq stressed the need to return to Iranian-American negotiations. Al-Mashhadani received the British Ambassador to Iraq, Irfan Siddiq, where they discussed various issues of common interest, exchanged views, and explored ways to develop bilateral relations and activate friendship committees between legislative institutions.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Mashhadani emphasized the importance of focusing efforts on promoting peace and security in the region, highlighting the ongoing tensions in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and Yemen. He attributed these tensions to the Zionist entity, which he described as a source of condemnation and denunciation. Al-Mashhadani expressed hope that Britain would play a significant role in ending these conflicts and take a prominent position in ending the war.

Moreover, the Speaker called for increased investment and the entry of British companies into Iraq’s private sector, noting that the country has a youthful population, with more than half comprised of young people.

Ambassador Siddiq, on his part, affirmed Britain’s support for Iraq’s stability, emphasizing that Britain stands against escalation and is committed to pursuing peaceful and diplomatic solutions. He clarified that Britain did not participate in military strikes and has no intention of intervening militarily, with the House of Commons not endorsing military solutions.

Both parties agreed on the importance of resuming Iranian-American negotiations and maintaining communication and consultation on common issues.
