Al-Mashhadani and Justice Minister Discuss General Amnesty Law Implementation and Prison Issues


Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani engaged in discussions with Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani and senior ministry officials regarding the execution of the general amnesty law and addressing prison-related issues.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani’s media office revealed that the Speaker of Parliament convened with the Minister of Justice and senior staff to delve into the enforcement of the general amnesty law. During the meeting, Al-Mashhadani received detailed insights into the law’s application, the current number of prisoners, their management, and the function of committees tasked with reinvestigation and facilitating the release of eligible inmates.



The Parliament Speaker emphasized the importance of streamlining the law’s provisions and overcoming any implementation barriers. Concerning inmate issues, Al-Mashhadani underscored the urgency of resolving matters swiftly, particularly those related to food and incidents within prisons. He advocated for enhanced coordination with security services and the National Security Service to manage and prevent riots effectively.



Al-Mashhadani further urged the Minister of Justice to take a personal interest in the critical medical conditions of inmates and to organize visits for them. The discussions also covered real estate registration issues, highlighting the necessity for automation and electronic archiving by credible entities to resolve existing challenges.



In response, the Minister pledged to address all matters raised during the meeting and sought the support of the House of Representatives and its members to aid the ministry in fulfilling its responsibilities comprehensively.
