Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani engaged in discussions with Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, focusing on enhancing security cooperation between Iraq and Russia. The meeting took place at the Parliament building, with the presence of the Russian Ambassador to Baghdad, Elbrus Kotrashev, and other delegation members.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Parliament Speaker’s media office released a statement detailing the topics covered during the meeting. The talks included discussions on regional developments and the strengthening of security cooperation between the two nations. Both parties emphasized the exchange of expertise and coordination in combating terrorism and maintaining stability. Additionally, they explored economic cooperation opportunities and discussed opening new business prospects for Russian companies within the Iraqi market. The importance of holding elections as scheduled and the role of the Council of Representatives in ensuring their success were also highlighted.
Sergei Shoigu commended the Iraqi democratic experience and its achievements, expressing Russia’s readiness to expand cooperation with Iraq, particularly in the security and investment sectors.
