Al-Mashhadani Calls for Unity to Address Erbil-Baghdad Issues


Erbil: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani emphasized the need for unity to address the unresolved matters between the central government and the Kurdistan Region during a meeting with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting, which took place on Sunday, centered on mediation efforts to address the crisis concerning the region’s employees’ salaries, following constitutional and legal guidelines. Attendees included Deputy Speaker of Parliament Shakhwan Abdullah and Chairman of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee Ziyad al-Janabi.



The discussion highlighted the importance of approaching the relationship between the central government and the region within constitutional and legal boundaries. It stressed the necessity of handling the issue of employees’ salaries independently of political conflicts. The dialogue should occur in a peaceful manner, devoid of political escalation.



Both parties expressed their readiness to initiate serious discussions on the crisis, with Parliament playing a pivotal role in facilitating solutions proposed by Erbil and the central government. The aim is to establish a smooth administrative relationship, devoid of political consequences. Solutions have been identified and will be discussed in the upcoming days.



Al-Mashhadani reiterated the importance of unity during these sensitive times for resolving outstanding issues. He assured that the central government would earnestly consider any feasible proposals for resolving the crisis, emphasizing solidarity with Kurdish citizens as integral members of the Iraqi populace, akin to citizens from all Iraqi governorates.
