Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani expressed strong condemnation of the attacks on the Islamic Republic, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peaceful and neighborly relations. Al-Mashhadani underscored the geographical and Islamic ties that bind Iraq and Iran, reiterating Iraq’s position against any form of aggression towards its neighbors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Mashhadani made these remarks during a meeting with Stephen Fagin, the Charg© d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Baghdad. The discussions focused on the regional situation, the state of bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States, and strategies to enhance these ties for mutual benefit. The conversation also touched on the recent Zionist attacks on Iran and their potential impact on regional stability, which both parties agreed were moving in an undesirable direction.

Al-Mashhadani emphasized Iraq’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and stability, rejecting any violation of its airspace or territory, especially if used to launch attacks on neighboring countries. He highlighted Iraq’s desire to avoid conflicts and to foster an environment of good neighborliness.

Stephen Fagin, representing the United States, expressed gratitude for the meeting and praised Iraq as a leading democracy in the region. He affirmed the strong security and economic cooperation between the United States and Iraq and reassured that the US government is not supporting any aggression against Iran. Fagin stated that the US is committed to resolving the nuclear issue through negotiations, aligning with President Trump’s calls for dialogue.

The discussions also included preparations for the upcoming elections in Iraq, emphasizing the importance of their timely execution. Both parties agreed on the necessity of maintaining open communication and exchanging views to address mutual concerns effectively and achieve favorable outcomes.
