Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani received the United Nations Representative in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan. During the meeting, Al-Mashhadani emphasized the importance of the United Nations’ role in addressing ongoing regional developments. He highlighted the UN’s efforts in preventing conflicts and underscored the necessity of maintaining international peace and security. Additionally, Al-Mashhadani called for the United Nations to address violations by the Zionist entity in Iran, Gaza, Syria, and Yemen.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussion also covered the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of holding elections on schedule. The conversation extended to human rights issues, the return of displaced persons to their homes, and the completion of the Human Rights Commission’s file in Iraq. Al-Hassan stated that the United Nations has appointed qualified international observers to oversee the elections and ensure their success. He also noted Iraq’s candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Council.

Al-Hassan praised Iraq’s current state, acknowledging the significant contributions of the House of Representatives and its Speaker in legislating laws and shaping a new vision for Iraq. He highlighted Iraq’s pioneering role in the region, given its historical context, and expressed admiration for the country’s successful democratic experience.
