Baghdad: Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani has urged Members of Parliament to attend an extraordinary session to affirm their collective stance against violations of Iraqi sovereignty. Al-Mashhadani’s appeal follows a significant meeting with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji, where they discussed the current geopolitical climate and its implications for Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions centered around recent Zionist attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran and the subsequent repercussions on Iraqi national security. Both leaders examined the political, security, and economic consequences of these events, seeking ways to mitigate escalation while maintaining Iraq’s position of condemning the aggression and supporting neighboring Iran.

Al-Mashhadani underscored the importance of holding an extraordinary session, requested by 50 members, to unify the parliamentary stance against the sovereignty violations. He stressed the necessity for all representatives, including the State Administration Coalition and the three presidencies, to participate in the session, scheduled for Tuesday, June 17. The session aims to foster important outcomes, a conducive atmosphere, and the presence of front-line leaders, emphasizing prudence and wisdom to maintain societal unity.

The National Security Advisor highlighted the importance of maintaining political and societal stability and avoiding internal disputes. Al-Mashhadani further called upon international bodies like the United Nations and the Security Council to abandon inaction and double standards, urging them to address the Zionist violations that continue to create regional tension.

In closing the meeting, Al-Mashhadani commended the efforts of the Iraqi National Security Advisor and his institution, reaffirming the Parliament’s support for initiatives that benefit the nation’s interests.
