Baghdad:Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdul Hussein Al-Moussawi emphasized the need for unified national efforts to achieve an environment free from radioactive contamination throughout the provinces.

According to Iraqi News Agency, Al-Moussawi chaired a meeting on Sunday with a committee dedicated to clearing Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, of radioactive remnants. The meeting focused on discussing mechanisms for collaboration among relevant ministries and government and security bodies to follow up on procedures for decontaminating targeted sites and areas.

The Ministry of Higher Education highlighted that the discussion covered the implementation of radiological safety and security standards to protect the environment and public health. Al-Moussawi underscored the importance of integrating scientific, technical, and supervisory roles among authorities to create a contamination-free environment across the country.

Attendees included Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Adviser Dr. Hamid Majid Mijbal Al-Bahili, and representatives from the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Control, the Ministry of Environment, the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, and other governmental entities. The meeting also saw participation from representatives of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Popular Mobilization Forces, and Babil Governorate.
