Baghdad: Al-Mustansiriya University has announced pivotal advancements in its academic and historical initiatives, with the introduction of a new master’s degree program in intelligent systems and efforts to document its founding in 1233 AD.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the University Council recently convened for its twenty-fourth session of the 2025-2026 academic year, led by the chairman, Safaa Taqi Al-Issawi. A significant outcome of this meeting was the decision to expedite the documentation of the university’s history, tracing back to the Al-Mustansiriya School founded in 625 AH (1233 AD). This move aims to bolster the university’s historical identity and enhance its recognition as a cultural and academic landmark by including it in the Iraqi Tourist Guide.

On the academic front, the council approved the establishment of a new master’s program in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Control Engineering and Intelligent Systems. This initiative, housed within the College of Engineering, is designed to align with the evolving technological landscape and cater to the modern job market’s demands. Additionally, the council addressed faculty advancements by approving promotions to the rank of Professor and reviewed study leave applications to foster continuous development within the academic staff.

University President Al-Issawi emphasized the importance of supporting scientific research through ministerial directives, advocating for the alignment of research efforts with the goals of sustainable development and the transition towards a knowledge economy. He also urged faculty to engage more actively with the Eduba educational platform to complete professional development courses, highlighting the significance of increased participation to accurately reflect the university’s academic stature.
