Al-Sadr Reaffirms Election Boycott

Baghdad: Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr reiterated his boycott of the elections or participation in them, announcing conditions for building and reforming the country.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, in a statement bearing his name and signature in red, and bearing the phrase “boycotter Muqtada al-Sadr,” al-Sadr said: “We are boycotting. Whoever wishes, let him boycott, and whoever wishes, let him pursue the lust for power.’

He added: “Truth will not be established and falsehood will not be defeated except by surrendering uncontrolled weapons to the state, dissolving the militias, strengthening the army and police, ensuring Iraq’s independence and non-subordination, and striving diligently for reform and holding the corrupt accountable… and what is hidden is greater.”
