Al-Salihi Seeks Bosnian Expertise to Address Iraq’s Missing Persons Crisis


Baghdad: Al-Salihi, an Iraqi MP and head of the committee responsible for the law on protection from enforced disappearances, has engaged in discussions with officials from the Ministry of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the handling of missing persons and mass graves. The discussions included the presence of other MPs from the committee.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Salihi highlighted the potential benefits for Iraq by learning from Bosnia’s approach, which employs legal and humanitarian strategies to determine the fate of missing individuals and uphold the rights of their families.

During his visit, Al-Salihi also met with members of the Bosnian parliament and the head of the Bosnian National Institute for Missing Persons. They shared insights on effective methods to uncover the whereabouts of missing persons. Al-Salihi remarked on the unresolved status of thousands of missing Iraqis and expressed a commitment to implement Bosnia’s proven strategies in Iraq.
