London: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani confirmed that his country is close to reopening its Embassy in the Turkish capital, Ankara, emphasizing the special relations between Syria and Turkey. This announcement was made during a dialogue session at Chatham House in London, where al-Shaibani is on an official visit of unspecified duration to engage in talks with British officials. According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Shaibani highlighted that discussions with the Turkish government regarding the embassy are ongoing. He remarked, "Of course, our mission and Embassy in Turkey are important because we have special relations with Turkey." As part of these efforts, Syria has already opened a consulate in Gaziantep, southern Turkey, to reduce the workload on the Syrian consulate in Istanbul, with approval from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Al-Shaibani explained that the Syrian embassy in Ankara was previously housed in a rented building, but it was lost due to non-payment of rent by th e former regime. The Foreign Minister also announced plans for a restructuring of Syria's diplomatic missions abroad starting next year. Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime last December, the new Syrian administration under President Ahmed al-Sharaa has been actively working to engage with the international community. The focus has been on establishing relations based on respect and mutual interests, attracting international investment, and contributing to the country's recovery and stability, which has positively influenced the global perspective on the Syrian issue.
