Baghdad: Today’s newspapers have highlighted a significant phone conversation between Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and US President-elect Donald Trump, which focused on advancing the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United States and coordinating efforts to end regional conflicts.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Zawraa newspaper, published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, reported that Prime Minister al-Sudani and President-elect Trump agreed on the importance of enhancing bilateral relations beyond security, with a focus on economic, financial, energy, and technological cooperation. The Prime Minister’s media office issued a statement detailing the conversation, in which al-Sudani congratulated Trump on his electoral victory and emphasized the mutual desire to strengthen the strategic partnership.

The statement further revealed that both leaders acknowledged Trump’s campaign promises to end regional wars and agreed to collaborate towards achieving this goal. Trump e
xpressed his eagerness to work constructively with al-Sudani and suggested a forthcoming meeting to discuss the expansion of relations between Iraq and the US.

Government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi commented on the positive tone of the call, noting that it underscores the commitment of both nations to maintain robust communication and elevate bilateral relations. He highlighted the existing solid infrastructure for cooperation, including various technical and professional committees and agreements, which facilitate ongoing collaboration free from political influence.

Meanwhile, Al-Sabah newspaper focused on the preparatory ministerial meeting for the upcoming extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit in Riyadh, in which Iraq is participating. This meeting aims to address the Zionist aggression on Gaza and Lebanon and regional developments. The summit is seen as a culmination of Iraqi diplomatic efforts, with Prime Minister al-Sudani being the first Arab and Islamic leader to call for a high-level meeting.

Political advisor Fadi Al-Shammari emphasized Iraq’s clear stance against violence towards Palestinians and Lebanese, advocating for international pressure to protect civilians and halt escalating conflicts. Political advisor Subhan Al-Mulla Jiyad confirmed Iraq’s participation in the summit and its ongoing communications with international parties to stop the aggression, reflecting Iraq’s commitment to supporting its Arab neighbors during crises.
