Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received a phone call today from US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, during which both parties affirmed their commitment to strengthening and deepening the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United States.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economic and security fields. Prime Minister Al-Sudani emphasized Iraq’s dedication to expanding economic relations with the United States and encouraged American companies to invest in Iraq’s growing market. He also highlighted the significant reforms and initiatives his government has implemented to create a stable, transparent, and investor-friendly environment.

US National Security Advisor Waltz urged the Prime Minister to rely more on American companies and address challenges hindering their operations in Iraq, including in the Kurdistan Region. The discussions underscored the importance of joint efforts to build a resilient Iraq capable of self-reliance.

The United States reiterated its commitment to supporting Iraq’s energy independence and expressed readiness to cooperate on accelerating this goal. On the security front, Waltz affirmed the US’s firm commitment to Iraq’s security and stability amid regional and international challenges. Both sides emphasized the need for ongoing cooperation to ensure Iraq’s sovereignty and long-term stability, especially given the region’s volatile conditions.

Waltz also mentioned that ending the exception for electricity supplied from Iran is linked to the maximum pressure policy, highlighting the necessity of bilateral coordination to mitigate potential adverse impacts on Iraq’s stability.

The call reinforced the robust partnership between Iraq and the United States, with both leaders expressing a shared vision for a secure, prosperous, and sovereign Iraq.
