Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani emphasized the importance of broad participation in the parliamentary elections, describing it as the main path to consolidating the foundations of democracy in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani, in a meeting with sheikhs and dignitaries from the Al-Bu Daraj tribe, expressed his pride in the tribe’s members, highlighting his longstanding relations with them since his tenure in Karmat, Maysan Governorate. He acknowledged the role of competent and loyal tribal members in achieving the government’s developmental and service objectives.

Al-Sudani pointed out that the government has prioritized reconstruction and development, effectively meeting citizens’ needs within less than three years, while building a state that safeguards everyone’s rights and strengthens the rule of law. He noted that some longstanding issues, dating back to the 1980s, have impacted governmental performance.

The Prime Minister stated that Iraq is preparing for its sixth parliamentary elections and emphasized that citizens now have the experience to choose their representatives. He reiterated that broad electoral participation is crucial for securing democratic foundations.

Al-Sudani also mentioned that governance in Iraq is a collective effort shared among the government, the Parliament, the judiciary, local governments, and the Kurdistan Regional Government. He highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination among all authorities, parties, and national forces.

He stressed that the government’s choice is reform as a key measure to combat corruption, emphasizing the significant responsibility involved in meeting citizens’ demands. He warned against those who distort facts for partisan or factional interests.

Furthermore, Al-Sudani revealed that the government has laid solid foundations for building the state, enhancing the economy, and developing infrastructure, with plans to advance the oil and energy sectors and end gas imports. He also announced an upcoming agreement with Turkey to construct dams to address water scarcity.
