Baghdad: Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, underscored the critical need to modernize and develop the Iraqi Air Force based on contemporary principles. He emphasized a strategic approach that aligns with Iraq’s supreme interests, free from emotional influences.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Al-Sudani participated in the (Ur 2) exercise at Balad Air Base, also known as Martyr Brigadier General Ali Fleih Base, celebrating the 94th anniversary of the Iraqi Air Force’s founding. The event was attended by the Minister of Defense, military commanders, and representatives from allied air forces.

During the exercise, Al-Sudani observed an aerial demonstration, including the participation of Iraqi and allied aircraft, and witnessed a target clearance operation. Additionally, he viewed a ground display of Iraqi aircraft and a parachute landing by participating units.

In his speech, Al-Sudani acknowledged the Air Force Command on its founding anniversary, commemorating the initial flight of the first fighter squadron by five Iraqi pilots on April 22, 1932. He highlighted the Air Force’s role as a cornerstone of national sovereignty and an essential element of the Iraqi Army’s capabilities, contributing to the armed forces’ prominence in the region.

Al-Sudani noted the international strategic exercise (UR 2), involving air forces from Iraq, the United States, Italy, France, and Jordan, alongside the Special Forces Command. This exercise reflects the Iraqi government’s efforts to foster cooperation through agreements with allied nations.

He praised the Air Force’s contributions following the fall of dictatorship, particularly in defending Iraq and conducting decisive operations against terrorism. Al-Sudani lauded the Air Force’s ongoing efforts in tracking and eliminating ISIS remnants in remote areas.
