Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has called on relevant authorities to eliminate barriers and speed up the processes needed to implement the New Sadr City project. During the regular meeting of the Higher Committee for the initiative, Al-Sudani emphasized the project’s significance to the citizens of Sadr City and the broader Baghdad area.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting, chaired by Al-Sudani, included key figures such as the Chairman of the National Investment Commission, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, the Mayor of Baghdad, along with various advisors and representatives of the project’s executive bodies. The discussions focused on the current status of the project’s infrastructure, which has been entrusted to a Chinese company, as well as the progress of its design work. Additional topics included investment plans for the power station and sewage system, expansion of the parallel line to the Police Canal, and soil testing at the site. The challenges faced at the work site and the establishment of the project’s resident engineer department were also reviewed.
Al-Sudani stressed the importance of this initiative in driving urban development and providing integrated services, urging authorities to make concerted efforts to overcome any obstacles. He mandated the continuation of monthly meetings led by him to monitor the project’s progress, alongside weekly meetings in the Baghdad Municipality. He also instructed ongoing communication with the Chinese company in charge of implementation and regular interactions with both current and future residents of the project’s lands.
