Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Sunday to discuss the launch of the cultural city project in the historic Akarkouf area west of the capital, Baghdad. The meeting included the Governor of Baghdad, the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Tourism Affairs, the Mayor of Abu Ghraib District, and the Head of the Iraqi Banks Association.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, al-Sudani was briefed on the details of the project, which has reached advanced stages to announce its implementation near Akarkouf Ziggurat. This site is considered one of the most important historical and archaeological tourist destinations and landmarks in Iraq.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of encouraging tourism development due to its economic contribution and cultural impact. He highlighted the necessity of promoting tourism as a civilized destination for the country, a path to creating job opportunities, and maximizing revenues. Al-Sudani noted the necessity of involving the private sector in rehabilitating archaeological sites and improving services in them, as it represents a strategic priority to achieve development and enhance national identity.
