Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani chaired a meeting on Sunday to discuss ways to maximize non-oil revenues and support and enhance the state’s financial resources. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Trade, the Mayor of Baghdad, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, and a number of advisors and general managers.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated that the meeting focused on the use of modern technologies, digital mechanisms, and automation to boost revenues and promote projects with higher returns. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for economic development through optimal investment of funds in areas with the highest returns, alongside developing plans to rationalize spending and reduce waste.

The meeting further addressed the Ministry of Trade’s revenues, strategies for maximizing them, and enhancing the quality of ration card items. Discussions included the best economic methods for managing wheat purchasing and storage operations, absorption capacity for upcoming seasons, and related spending. Additionally, the organization of the Baghdad Municipality’s revenues, managing real estate resources and institutional projects, and collection methods were on the agenda. Implementation of revenue collection in the electricity sector and plans to substantiate this were also reviewed.
