Al-Sudani Chairs Meeting to Strengthen Oversight and Anti-Corruption Measures

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chaired a meeting focused on reviewing the performance of oversight bodies, assessing anti-corruption measures, and discussing strategies to rationalize government spending and enhance state treasury revenues.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting included heads of the Federal Commission of Integrity and the Federal Board of Supreme Audit, along with several advisors. Al-Sudani emphasized the critical role of oversight institutions in rationalizing expenditures and maximizing revenues, noting that these institutions conduct constitutional and legal duties in parallel with the Council of Ministers. Their responsibilities include monitoring and auditing the implementation of government decisions.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for oversight bodies to present practical proposals and ideas to strengthen procedures for increasing public treasury revenues. He urged the identification of gaps related to corruption and the waste of public funds, and advocated for effective solutions to address these issues.

In line with these objectives, Al-Sudani directed the implementation of preventive measures to safeguard public funds and resources. He also emphasized the importance of monitoring activities that contradict spending restraint and revenue enhancement goals. Furthermore, he called for recommendations to improve the performance of state institutions, address deficiencies, and prevent negative practices or institutional dysfunction.
