Al-Sudani Confirms Trust in Private Sector for Pharmaceutical Advancements

Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed confidence in the capabilities of the private sector in the pharmaceutical industry. During the launch of the executive works to establish the Maysan factory for the production of medical intravenous solutions and medicines, al-Sudani stated, “The government has placed the health sector at the top of its priorities.” He highlighted the private sector’s role in meeting national needs for medicines and medical supplies by enhancing the pharmaceutical industry, which has witnessed significant success over the past two years, becoming a crucial component of pharmaceutical security and, consequently, national security.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister initiated the executive works to establish the Maysan factory, marking it as the second of its kind in Iraq and a private sector project in Maysan Governorate. The factory aims to fulfill the southern governorates’ requirements for intravenous solutions, utilizing modern and advanced technologies and German-origin production lines.

The past two years have seen the opening of five new factories for life-saving intravenous solutions, with local demand reaching 70%, paving the way for self-sufficiency by the beginning of next year. In the broader context of the national pharmaceutical industry, local needs coverage has increased to 40-45%, with 13 factories opened, 19 under construction, and 170 applications submitted for the establishment of new facilities.
