Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has reaffirmed that the religious authority’s identified needs and requirements align with the government’s program.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from Al-Sudani’s media office detailed his attendance at the general tribal conference of Bani Hajim tribes in Baghdad and Muthanna Governorate. During the conference, Al-Sudani expressed gratitude towards the tribes, recalling their significant role in supporting peace and responding to calls from the religious authority to confront terrorism. He commended the Bani Hajim tribes and others for their contributions to resolving disputes and emphasized the importance of maintaining the tribe’s positive image as a foundational element in state and society building.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the religious authority’s outlined needs coincide with the government’s priorities, such as preventing foreign interference, enforcing the rule of law, and focusing on anti-corruption measures. He highlighted the importance of implementing these priorities with the cooperation of Iraq’s tribes to ensure the nation’s stability and progress.

Al-Sudani noted the government’s satisfaction with its efforts to prioritize citizens’ needs, addressing past policy mistakes by advancing service and economic sectors. He mentioned achievements in economic reform, particularly in halting wasteful practices in electricity production and gas flaring. He declared that by the end of 2027, all power stations will operate on Iraqi gas, marking a significant shift from the previous expenditure of 6 trillion dinars annually on imported petroleum derivatives, as Iraq has now achieved self-sufficiency.
