Basra: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani emphasized the government’s focus on enhancing the infrastructure of the health sector from the onset of its administration.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s media office released a statement highlighting al-Sudani’s visit to Safwan General Hospital, which has a capacity of 100 beds. The visit marked the beginning of his tour in Basra Governorate. The hospital project, which has faced years of delays, has now reached its final stages. Following al-Sudani’s visit in September 2023, the project was expanded to include additional facilities such as a water desalination plant, an MRI building, a dental clinic building, and a helipad.

During his visit, Prime Minister al-Sudani toured the hospital’s wards and examined the completed work. He underscored the necessity of precision in the supply of medical equipment and devices, ensuring that the work meets the required standard specifications. This, he stated, is crucial for the hospital to deliver optimal services to the residents of Safwan district and nearby areas, alleviating the need for them to travel long distances to access medical care.

Al-Sudani reiterated the government’s prioritization of health sector infrastructure, noting that upcoming projects in Basra Governorate will soon see the completion of the specialized university hospital with a capacity of 455 beds. Additionally, the final stages of construction are underway for Al-Haritha Hospital, the emergency hospital in the Shatt al-Arab district, and other medium-sized hospitals in Abu al-Khaseeb and Al-Zubair.
