Al-Sudani Highlights Importance of Iraq-France Regional Viewpoint Convergence


Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani emphasized the critical importance of aligning perspectives between Iraq and France concerning regional issues.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office revealed that al-Sudani met with French Foreign Minister Jean-No«l Barrot and his delegation. Al-Sudani highlighted the robust ties with France that have strengthened since his visit to Paris two years ago, which included the signing of a strategic agreement. He expressed anticipation for French President Emmanuel Macron’s forthcoming visit to Iraq and underscored the alignment of views between the two nations regarding the region.



The Prime Minister conveyed Iraq’s interest in hosting the Iraqi-French Business Forum in Baghdad. He underscored the significance of regional stability, especially in Syria, and advocated for principles of citizenship, peaceful coexistence, and inclusive governance.



Barrot, on behalf of President Macron, lauded the Iraqi government’s efforts in transforming Iraq into a promising investment destination with improved security rankings. He highlighted the importance of coordinating positions with Iraq, viewing it as a pivotal nation, and advocated for enhanced economic relations. Barrot also reaffirmed France’s commitment to military and security cooperation and combating terrorism, following bilateral agreements on military equipment. He stated that France shares Iraq’s stance on developments in Syria and the region.
