Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has received an official invitation to visit Italy with the aim of signing strategic bilateral agreements spanning economic, security, military, and cultural sectors.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the invitation was extended by the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Nicolo Fontana, during a meeting with Al-Sudani. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing joint cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Al-Sudani expressed the Iraqi government's commitment to fulfilling the agreements made with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during her visit to Iraq in late 2022. He also emphasized Iraq's efforts to foster deeper ties with Italy and underscored the significant role of Italian companies in Iraq's ongoing development. Preparations for his upcoming trip to Rome were also discussed.

The Italian ambassador conveyed that the invitation aims to finalize strategic agreements and address unresolved issues between Iraq and Italy dating back to the 1980s. He remarked on the critical nature of Iraq-Italy cooperation in contributing to regional and global stability.
