Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al Sudani chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee for Re-evaluating and Reforming the Boards of Directors of Government Banks and the Central Bank of Iraq on Monday.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Prime Minister’s Media Office stated that the meeting approved a set of recommendations and discussed agenda topics focused on evaluating the performance of the boards of directors of government banks and the Central Bank. The discussions are part of ongoing reform efforts in the banking and financial sector, emphasizing the effectiveness of these boards as a critical component of the financial and banking reform process.
Al Sudani highlighted the importance of boards of directors in developing strategies and visions to guide the work of government banks. He stressed the need for transparency and accountability within these boards and called for an assessment of the financial challenges and risks facing banks. Additionally, Al Sudani underscored the significance of strengthening relationships with various government agencies and the private sector to implement financial and development policies that support the local economy.
