Al-Sudani Oversee Signing of Major Integrated Gas Development Contracts in Basra


Basra: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani sponsored the signing ceremony of contracts for significant projects under the Integrated Gas Development Project (GGIP) at the Artawi field in Basra.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the event marked the collaboration between the Ministry of Oil, Total Energies of France, Basra Oil Company, and Qatar Gas. It was attended by notable figures including Qatari Minister of Energy Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi and key executives from Total, Enka, CPECC, and Hyundai.



The ceremony began with the reception of the Qatari Minister of Energy and the CEO of Total by Iraqi officials, such as the Minister of Oil and the Prime Minister’s Advisor for Energy Affairs. Prime Minister Al-Sudani highlighted the significance of increased Qatari and foreign investments in Iraq, emphasizing the open nature of the Iraqi market for serious companies in various sectors.



The Qatari Minister conveyed the Emir of Qatar’s greetings and reiterated Qatar’s commitment to expanding its investment footprint in Iraq. Similarly, Total’s CEO expressed interest in broadening the company’s operations in the country, citing Iraq’s advancements in economic development and security.



The contracts signed include several key agreements:



First, a joint operating contract was established between the Ministry of Oil, Basra Oil Company, Qatar Energy, and Total, focusing on the integrated gas development project in the Artawi field.



Second, Total Energy and Hyundai signed a deal for a seawater treatment facility with a capacity of 7.5 million barrels per day. This project aims to enhance reservoir pressure in southern oil fields.



Third, Total Energy and Enka entered into a contract for a central oil and gas processing plant, designed to produce 210,000 barrels of oil per day, 163 million cubic feet of gas per day, and 240,000 barrels of water per day, incorporating gas-free flaring technology.



Fourth, a gas processing plant contract was signed between Total and CPECC, targeting the exploitation of associated gas from the Artawi and other fields, with a total capacity of 600 million cubic feet per day in two phases.



In his concluding remarks, the Prime Minister urged swift implementation of the projects, particularly the production of gas and clean solar electricity, which aims to add 1,000 megawatts to the national electricity grid starting next year.
