Baghdad: Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and providing comprehensive assistance to farmers. This initiative is part of a broader effort to implement sustainable agricultural development plans and enhance food security across Iraq.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, this announcement came during a meeting between Al-Sudani and representatives of rice farmers from Najaf, Diwaniya, and Muthanna provinces. During the meeting, Al-Sudani instructed the relevant authorities to complete and submit the 2023 compensation beneficiary lists for Diwaniya and Muthanna. Najaf has already submitted its list, which is set to be presented to the Cabinet for a final decision.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Media Office noted that this directive follows the completion of a report by a committee formed under Diwani Order No. (250480), dated April 13, 2025, regarding compensation for rice farmers. The meeting also addressed the current agricultural situation in the three provinces, discussing improvements, the winter agricultural plan, and ways to overcome obstacles facing farmers.
Attendees of the meeting included Members of Parliament Nazem Al-Shibli, Hamid Al-Shiblawi, and Saad Al-Toubi, along with the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and the Director General of Planning at the Ministry of Water Resources.
